‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt ready to express about his deep grief.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can now articulate my loss into words," posted Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the movie, commenting that he cannot recall "one day without mirth".
"The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, stating: "To say that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He ended with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.

This week, a Los Angeles court official agreed to prevent the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the LAPD.
A legal directive put a embargo on the investigation to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the active case.
The relevant authority had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a official listing noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".

Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, offering provocative claims that were broadly criticized by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the those speaking out recently. Talking on his program, Rogan characterized the statements as "shocking" and suggested they revealed a troubling deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan ended by proposing that an adviser could have acted when the impulse to comment on the tragedy was made.
