Kicking off on Halloween night at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, episode two of It: Welcome to Derry will launch on HBO Max, before its traditional TV airing. Subsequent episodes of the series run will premiere on Sundays on HBO and HBO Max, building toward the concluding chapter on the 14th of December.
Storyline Summary
Taking place within the world of King's It, Welcome to Derry borrows elements from the original story while building upon the world established by the It movie director in It and It Chapter Two. The original It centered on kids and teens facing supernatural evils, making it appropriate that the prequel upholds that legacy. Nevertheless, the debut of HBO’s Welcome to Derry proves it intended to escalate the fear, delivering more frightening moments than the movies and establishing a dark atmosphere for the upcoming episodes.

Taking place in the 1960s, this show features a different group of parents and youngsters inhabiting a seemingly idyllic town concealing a dark secret. Derry operates on a brutal, periodic loop—defined by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a terrifying being resurfaces every 27 years. Even though Welcome to Derry might seem like it leans too heavily to the cinematic adaptations at first, what differentiates the digital program is its parallel storytelling—narrated via the eyes of both children and adults at the same time. Younger characters stay particularly vulnerable to the monster's horror, but grown-ups also face dealing with their individual fears born from the town's ingrained prejudice and hidden paranormal elements.
