The families of young people lost after a tragic blaze at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are confronting an painful wait for official news and pleading for clues about their loved ones publicly.

The blaze devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Verified video show the roof structure igniting as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the victims of the fire, which claimed the lives of 40 people and injured another scores more. Officials said on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been identified, with work continuing to locate the other six.

In the meantime, families and friends have been posting on social media to request clues about their missing relatives who were present at the venue that night.

Appeals for the Missing

The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an appeal from his family.
