The English Team to Begin UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at the Etihad Stadium
England’s men’s team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they attain the expected passage for a competition staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an England men’s game since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to stage the Three Lions for their opening fixture on a Saturday in June 2028.
The team are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, in the event of winning their group, their knockout stage opener would take place at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tournament Kickoff and Rally
The event was launched at an event in a London landmark on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were barracked as they approached the location by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be kicked out from global football because of the Gaza crisis.
Banners were raised with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Schedule
The first match of Euro 2028 will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will involve the Dragons if they make it.
Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.
It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract family audiences and help engage a broader range of viewers.
Participating Countries
The Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that do not reach the tournament through that route.
Locations and Playoffs
The Birmingham venue and The North London arena round out the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the last eight held at each country’s national stadium.
The qualifying draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.
Leadership Comment
“It will be a tournament for the followers and a festival of everything we love about the sport – its fervor and ability to foster unity.”
Over 3 million admissions, a record for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be made available to fans.
