The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
