The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
