Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She received almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
