Vince Zampella, who helped create the immensely successful first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a car accident in California at the age of 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, a game studio that he helped create.

The renowned video game developer passed away following his automobile collided and was engulfed in flames on a freeway in the Los Angeles area on this past Sunday, according to.
